Eagles sign OL Nick Gates, elevate WR Parris Campbell
Eagles bolster offensive line, receiving corps
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed offensive lineman Nick Gates to a one-year contract, the team announced Monday. Gates, a former All-Pro, missed the entire 2022 season with a foot injury. The Eagles also elevated wide receiver Parris Campbell from the practice squad to the active roster. Campbell, a former Ohio State standout, has been with the Eagles since 2021.
Gates provides Eagles with experienced depth
Gates, 29, is a versatile lineman who can play both guard and center. He was a key member of the New York Giants' offensive line that helped Saquon Barkley rush for over 1,000 yards in 2018. Gates earned All-Pro honors in 2020, but he missed the entire 2021 season with a foot injury. The Eagles are hoping that Gates can provide them with some much-needed depth on the offensive line. The team lost starting center Jason Kelce to retirement this offseason, and they have been dealing with injuries to several other linemen.
Campbell adds speed to Eagles' receiving corps
Campbell, 26, is a speedy wide receiver who can also contribute on special teams. He has 77 catches for 1,037 yards and six touchdowns in his career. The Eagles are hoping that Campbell can add some much-needed speed to their receiving corps. The team lost wide receiver DeSean Jackson to free agency this offseason, and they have been struggling to find a consistent deep threat. The additions of Gates and Campbell should help the Eagles improve their offense in 2023. The team is hoping to make a run at the Super Bowl this season, and they believe that these two players can help them get there.
