Berkshire Hathaway's Class A and Class B Shares: What's the Difference?
Class A and Class B Shares
Berkshire Hathaway has two classes of stock: Class A and Class B. The main difference between the two types of shares is their price.
As of November 2018, Berkshire Hathaway's Class A shares were trading at around $528,000 per share, while the Class B shares were trading at around $170 per share.
Other Differences
Besides their price, there are a few other minor differences between Class A and Class B shares.
For example, Class A shareholders have the right to elect directors, while Class B shareholders do not. However, this difference is largely academic, as Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway's CEO, controls a majority of the company's voting shares.
