Bucks Hire Doc Rivers As Head Coach
Former Clippers Coach Joins Milwaukee After Two-Season Stint
Rivers Becomes 18th Head Coach in Franchise History
The Milwaukee Bucks have hired Doc Rivers as their new head coach, the team announced on Friday. Rivers, who had spent this season as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers, replaces interim coach Joe Prunty, who took over after Jason Kidd was fired in January.
Rivers, 61, has a long and successful coaching career that includes stints with the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Clippers. He led the Celtics to the NBA championship in 2008 and the Clippers to the Western Conference finals in 2021.
The Bucks are coming off a disappointing season in which they finished 46-36 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Miami Heat. However, they have a talented roster led by two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Rivers is expected to help them contend for a championship.
Rivers is the 18th head coach in Bucks franchise history. He replaces interim coach Joe Prunty, who took over after Jason Kidd was fired in January.
The Bucks are hoping that Rivers can help them take the next step and win their first NBA championship since 1971.
